The Fat Frog is my favourite, non-seaside brunch spot in Langkawi. This relaxed open-air restaurant comes with fabulous views of the golf course and delicious home-style Western food.

Located about halfway been Cenang and Kuah, The Fat Frog serves up tasty, simple fare: soups, salads, pastas, burgers, quiches, and crumbles. The daily specials are usually a good bet, since they’re crafted by the chef based on the best produce available at the time. The combination of fresh, good-quality ingredients and friendly service is perfect if you’re in the mood for an unpretentious meal and a chat. (Canine lovers might be in for an unexpected treat if the resident dog is around!)

Vegetarians are in good hands – the menu features a surprising variety of veggie dishes. This is also one of the few places on the island that uses a lot of organic ingredients, so bonus points for healthfulness. There’s Prosecco in the fridge, and beer on the tap; what more do you need for a lovely, boozy weekend brunch? The kids have heaps of space to run about while the adults relax with a glass of bubbly or ale.

My most memorable meals at The Fat Frog have taken place on slightly overcast days: enjoy the cool breeze as you gaze out at the lush, rolling hills – and the ocean beyond. The laidback vibe of this place also makes it a good choice for solo diners who want to meet some interesting folks, read a book in the great outdoors, or just have a great meal by themselves. On your way out, stop by the boutique to browse through the handicrafts.

If you’re wondering where to eat while you’re in Langkawi, The Fat Frog definitely deserves a place on your restaurant shortlist.
